The Wraparound Philosophy

Wraparound can be summarized by the proverb “It takes a village to raise a child.” To help your child and family better manage challenging situations, your Care Manager will use a team approach guided by the 10 Principles of Wraparound.

Family Voice and Choice

Your family’s and child’s ideas, preferences, and values are most important in the Wraparound Process.

Culturally Competent

The Wraparound Process respects and builds on the values, preferences, beliefs, culture, and identity of your child, family, and community.

Team Based

Your family chooses who will be part of a team, called the Child and Family Team (CFT), to support your family in achieving goals.

Individualized

No two Plans are alike; your child’s Plan will be specific to his/her strengths and needs.

Natural Supports

Friends and supports from the community are strongly encouraged to be part of your CFT.

Strength Based

The Wraparound Process and the Wraparound Plan identify the positive skills of each member of the CFT and builds upon them to help your family reach its goals.

Collaboration

CFT members work together and share responsibility to create a plan with achievable goals for your family.

Unconditional

A Wraparound team does not give up on, blame, or reject children, youth, and their families. When faced with challenges or setbacks, the team continues working towards meeting the needs of the youth and family and towards achieving the goals in the Wraparound plan until the team reaches agreement that a formal Wraparound process is no longer necessary.

Community Based

The CFT finds different ways in your community to help your family achieve the set goals.

Outcome Based

When creating the Plan, the CFT makes sure there are clear ways of measuring the goals identified by your family. The Care Manager continuously monitors the strategies to make sure they are helping your family reach those goals.

Testimonial

Unwavering Support

“I am the aunt and guardian of a 16 year old young lady who has experienced great loss and abandonment throughout her life. As a result of her traumatic childhood, she suffered a complete mental crisis. I found myself ill-equipped to handle what was before us.
While faced with helping her, I had to contend with DC&P and the family court system who filed an abandonment charge against me because of my refusal to discharge her from the hospital. I was able to successfully argue in court that we needed immediate and intensive treatment to save her life. The judge agreed and ordered CMO; at the time we had no idea what this organization was about.
After the order was given, we met our Care Manager within days of the judgment and she took us step by step, explaining the process and what would happen long term and short term. I am so impressed with her dedication and thoroughness concerning us. She is a constant scheduler and organizes all of my niece’s services. She has also made sure that I had support through FSO to help me help my niece navigate the rest of her life. CMO has been the blessing we needed in our darkest hour, but it was made seamless because of our Care Manager.”
